Chapter O Christmas Angel

Chapter O member Joanna appears as our very own Christmas angel. This photo was forwarded to me by Chapter O sister Louise. She shared that they played with some photography special effects this summer at the family cabin. Joanna's inner angel came shining through.

Wishing you all the joys of this season. May your days be merry and bright!

I'm A Star Goes Vegas, Baby!

Chapter O's I'm A Star recently visited sin city accompanied by Chapter O President, Kris. I'm A Star is seen here (on the right) following attendance at the Chapter G, Nevada regular meeting on October 19. The Stratosphere and Vegas strip can been seen in the background.
Chapter G meetings on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. Their evening meetings are held in the Spanish Trail residential clubhouse. The program on changes to the International Constitution, was presented by former Nevada State Chapter president, Johanna. Chapter G's Treasurer is former Chapter O member and University of Idaho graduate, Julia.

The P.E.O. Bed And Breakfast Experience

Staying at a P.E.O. Bed and Breakfast is like visiting a good friend. I experienced this firsthand when my BIL and I stayed in the home of Frank and Susie in East Wenatchee, Washington. Their beautiful home was welcoming and comfortable. Susie greeted us and gave us recommendations for local restaurants and served us warm apple pie for dessert. We shared chapter fundraising ideas, recipes, and talked about our children. Susie served a yummy breakfast the next morning. The money earned supports our P.E.O. projects.

I'm A Star!

Idaho State Chapter President, Faye, has chosen "Angel Wings and Starlit Things" as her theme for the year. She shared her vision at Idaho State Convention held at Moscow in May, 2009. She created an angel she called "I'm A Star" to remind each chapter of their special angel. Each chapter delegate delivered the I'm A Star poster to her chapter to participate in meetings and special occasions. Chapter O member, Jackie, decorated our angel and brought her to the first meeting this fall. Our angel is a vision in pink and lavender. She will watch over our meetings and activities this year and then make her arrival at the 2010 Convention. Check back to see where I'm A Star makes an appearance.

Chapter O Picnic 2009

Thanks to some of our favorite B.I.L.'s, Chapter O members enjoyed a fun cookout picnic last evening. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining. Jerry and the boys grilled Flying W Texas Longhorn beef burgers on the grill. Chapter O sisters brought delicious side dishes and salads. Wow! What a spread. And, what a great way to say "goodbye" to our sister, Christy, as she heads off to new adventures in Idaho Falls. Christy and her children took time off from packing to join us for the picnic. Christy's husband has found them a place to live and they will be settling in by the end of the week.

Summer Picnic

The Chapter O Summer Picnic is getting to be a tradition. This year, we will get together on FRIDAY,  July 24 at 6pm at Frontier Anderson Park in southeast Moscow. There is a picnic shelter, paved path around the pond and playground equipment. You will find lots of places to park on Fletcher Court (off of Victoria Drive) or Fort Stevens (off of Appaloosa Drive).

We'll enjoy grilled Texas Longhorn burgers. Please bring a salad or dessert to share.

Everyone is invited. Please bring your B.I.L. and any guest you would like included. It's going to be a fun get together, so please plan to attend.

Please let us know if you can be there. Call Consuelo W. See you there!

Travel Plans

Summer and travel just seem to go together. Wherever your travels take you, consider staying at a P.E.O. Bed and Breakfast. Many chapters (including Chapter O) have enlisted members to share their homes as a fundraiser for our projects. Do you have plans for a staycation this summer? Chapter JF in lovely Leavenworth, Washington has a B&B. You can take the ferry (or a seaplane) to Lopez Island for a stay in Chapter IU's B&B. Four chapters in Seattle offer homes for multi-night stays. You could stay in a P.E.O.'s home in Spokane if you need an overnight or two closer to home.
The Bed and Breakfast homes are open to all P.E.O. members. Many can only accommodate one or two people. But, Chapter I in Lusk, Wyoming welcomes families to their ranch setting! Are you headed to the east coast? Five chapters on Cape Cod offer B&B accommodations. You can even stay in the historic Williamsburg area with members of Chapters BJ and BQ, Virginia.
Every state has Bed and Breakfast opportunities. Chapter F in Fairbanks, Alaska offers a room for $60 per night/couple! Now, that's a deal.
The next time you get bitten by the travel bug, consider staying at a P.E.O. Bed and Breakfast. You can check out the Bed and Breakfast locator on the P.E.O. International website. A link to the website is available on the left side of the blog page. Many of the listings include email addresses for contacts.

Check It Out

When was the last time you logged on to the P.E.O. website? You will find a link to the website in the column to the left of this post. You will find a wealth of information about P.E.O., our projects, Cottey College and more. Of special interest is access to the Noel Levitz Membership Survey Results. A power point presentation leads the viewer through the results of the survey conducted last year. You may be surprised by some of the statistics and opinions gathered from your sisters across the country. Many of the amendments and recommendations being presented at International Convention are based upon the results of this interesting survey. Please take time to watch the presentation (takes about 20 minutes).

Fundraising

P.E.O. chapters engage in moneymaking activities to fund our international projects. The fundraising efforts are as varied as the women who belong to the organization. Bake sales, garage sales, auctions, fashion shows, and wine tastings. Many chapters share their ideas on the P.E.O. International website and our sisterhood's publication The Record. I ran across a very creative fundraising idea from Chapter EB, Minnesota. The chapter members make P.E.O. related items and sell them on the craft website Etsy. Check our what they artistic ladies have created at www.ChapterEB.etsy.com.

Welcome to the Chapter O Blog

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College, and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

Chapter O, Idaho was formed in 1919 at Moscow, Idaho. Friendship is still the cornerstone of our unique sisterhood. P.E.O. continues to be a source of encouragement and support for women to realize their potential in whatever worthwhile endeavor they choose.
